‘Lihuen’ New Variety of Kiwifruit
‘Lihuen’ is a particular genotype, distinguished by its agronomic and organoleptic traits. This new genotype was registered under the name of ‘Lihuen’, which means “light” in the Mapuche language. ‘Lihuen’ is a yellow-fleshed kiwifruit, which presents mid period blooming (End of October) and harvest (150 days after full flower), according to the UPOV guidelines. The fruit has an oblong shape with a flat, style tip. It is regular/big sized, hairless and its skin is light brown. It has a high content of soluble solids (10-11%) and dry matter (18-19%) at harvest. It has a greenish- yellow (Hue 105-111°) color that later on turns yellow (Hue 98-103°). At consumption the soluble solids reach 15%.
DATA OF HARVEST
Yield: 30 ton / ha (potential).
Size: Good size in youth stage (equatorial 48 mm and polar 66 mm).
Sensory quality: High sensory acceptability, above what was evaluated in Hayward and similar to the ‘Kiss’ variety in several attributes evaluated.
Hayward, the flowering of Lihuen occurs 23 days before, and the harvest 21 days before.
HARVEST MATURITY INDICATORS
Dry material (%): 18-19% harvest.
Soluble Solids (%): 10-11% harvest. 15-16% consumption.
Pressure (lb): 8-10 lb harvest.
Storage capacity (days): 30 days at 0 ° C with normal atmosphere (no trials have been performed for a longer period).
Kiwi´s performance in fields of the VII region will be evaluated, since all the tests have been carried out in the Metropolitan Region.
Evaluation have been carried out in a storage period of 30 days at 0ºC and 15 days at 20ºC.
