KNOW HUB CHILE LAUNCHES SUPPORT PROGRAMME FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNOLOGY-BASED ENTREPRENEURSHIPS

Sign up here..Know Hub Chile together with University of California, Riverside launched Know Hub Ignition Call, a programme supporting the development and growth of entrepreneurships which base their work on the results of scientific or technological research (Technology-Based Entrepreneurship). The call is open for researchers, undergraduates and graduate students, and entrepreneurs till May 17. Know Hub Ignition fills some of the shortcomings detected by the Interamerican Bank for Development (BID) Report about Technology-Based Entrepreneurships in Latin America, like the ‘lack or weakness, in several countries, of training instances to expose academics and scientists to the entrepreneurship option. Precisely, Know Hub Ignition is a 15-week programme through which selected teams will be provided with iCorps training, from the National Science Foundation (USA NSF), focused mainly in figuring out whether there is market for their idea. They are also going to receive key support in the corporate and tax structure of their venture (company set-up), and National and International Expert mentoring, to enable their technology to reach the society and the market. Lastly, three teams will be selected to travel to California for a week of meetings with potential clients or investors. ‘Working towards innovation promotion is our way of contributing to overcome the current crisis, specially at a time when science has been acknowledged its legitimate place in the design and execution of national public policies. In this scenario, we truly believe that Know Hub can and must contribute, following our purpose of collaborating to turn science into innovation’, Javier Ramírez, Know Hub executive director, remarks. ‘In times of so much uncertainty, it’s our innovators the ones who will find the solution to so many global challenges. Know Hub Ignition is a road map to implement these solutions, UC Riverside Technology Partnerships Vice rector Rosibel Ochoa, points out. According to High Direction Women (MAD network), just a 6% of all startups are created exclusively by women. That’s why Know Hub Ignition 2020 has a gender approach: 25% of the quotas will be for proposals led by women. In its first 2019 edition, Know Hub Ignition received 53 proposals, from which 11 were selected. For his second 2020 edition, two quotas were increased: 16 will be chosen.
