Dear Editor:
The 2023 Budget Law includes an extraordinary investment in Science and Technology. Nearly CLP 76 billion, which would mean a historic 9.6% increase to boost research and development in Chile.
If approved, it would undoubtedly be very good news for Chilean science, a field where resources are often scarce.
But we also need a change of mindset and a much more complex machinery of collaboration, support for science- and technology-based companies, and trust, so that national scientific innovations can emerge. All this so that science made in Chile does not remain confined to the walls of a laboratory or a paper, but becomes technological solutions with real chances of entering the national production matrix and turning into innovation. That is what will make years of effort and invested resources efficient and shape a knowledge-based society.
