One of the event’s main focuses will be the Chilean Navy’s National Continuous Shipbuilding Plan

Know Hub Chile will hold the Dual Hub Summit 2025, the first dual innovation summit in Latin America, at the Universidad del Bío-Bío on May 6–7. It will bring together startups, universities, defense companies, investors and players from the R&D&I ecosystem, with the goal of positioning Chile as a benchmark for dual-use technologies in the region.

According to Know Hub Chile, the aim of this event is to consolidate a space for coordination among science, defense, industry and the State to activate dual innovation in Chile, driving technologies that respond to the country’s strategic challenges and generate public value, productive development and technological capabilities with national and international impact.

The event—the first of its kind in the region—will mark a turning point in how technological innovation is conceived: not as an isolated effort, but as a synergy among universities, research centers, companies, startups, the Armed Forces, public agencies and investors.

In this way, the Dual Hub Summit 2025 will help achieve a strategic purpose: creating technology solutions that serve both the civilian and military spheres, thereby driving national growth and international reach.

“At Know Hub Chile we firmly believe that a country’s development is built on trust, knowledge and cooperation between sectors that have often worked separately,” says its executive director, Javier Ramírez. “That is why we have committed to opening a space that connects technological capabilities, national challenges and multisector collaboration,” he adds.

NATIONAL TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT

The event, sponsored by Lockheed Martin and backed by Corfo and the National Research and Development Agency (ANID), is endorsed by the Universidad del Bío-Bío’s Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Graduate Studies, the Ministry of National Defense, the Biobío Regional Government, Fidae, the Chilean Air Force and the Chilean Navy’s Technological Innovation Center (CITA).

The Dual Hub Summit 2025 consolidates a joint effort among public and private, national and international players, and aims to position Chile as a regional benchmark in dual innovation, contributing not only to economic development but also to the country’s technological autonomy and strategic security.

One of the main focuses will be the National Continuous Shipbuilding Plan, which includes a series of initiatives to energize the country’s naval industry. Within this framework, the Avante 04 program will be presented. Developed jointly with the Chilean Navy, it seeks to contribute technology solutions emerging from the science, technology, knowledge and innovation (CTCI) ecosystem.

The first Dual Hub Summit will bring together leading representatives of the national and international space ecosystem, including Erin Flores (Arquitectura Espacial Chile and Vortic), Guler Kocak (Spacelis, Turkey), Loreto Moraga (Achide), Elise Servajean (CATA) and Sebasthian Ogalde (Andes Aerospace).

Over two days, the summit will put key questions for national technological development on the table: How do we work together to create a dual future? How can defense drive regional productive and technological development? How do we build paths of collaboration among science, industry and the State?
