The delegation, led by Nicole Verdugo, director of Women Economic Chile and of the Chamber of Women and Business, included representatives from every sector, who took center stage in the debates and panels on the situation of women after the pandemic.

Representation on several panels

Marcela Ruiz, from the Valdivia-based company Acústica Marina, led the panel «The environmental crisis: actions and proposals», where she had the opportunity to address the main challenges facing science- and technology-based startups in Chile. On the same panel, Jessy Cisternas of Compañía Minera del Pacífico discussed the company’s sustainability initiatives.

«Crypto assets: are women there?» was the conversation led by Daniela Ramirez, investment advisor, and Clery Neira, Vice President for Innovation at Instituto AIEP. The two Chileans stressed that more women are needed in the blockchain industry, which is a great opportunity to close the gap and gain economic empowerment. «Blockchain is part of the financial revolution; if we get involved now, it is possible to create a new economy with a gender perspective,” said Ramirez.

Meanwhile, Sandra Barros, Managing Director of Accenture Chile, took part in the panel “Digital Transformation and Training: Artificial Intelligence – Cybercrime,” where she highlighted the importance of educating more women in Artificial Intelligence (AI) so they are motivated to lead change in their environment.

Paula González and Alejandra Pereira took part in the session «Women of the future: how are we preparing?», where the conversation focused on how to stop being “superwomen” by learning to manage life’s different roles efficiently and with the help of technology.

Representing Chilean women writers, Tatiana Camps, author of “Liderar desde lo femenino,” and Catalina Droguett, author of “Ecología personal,” took part in the panel “Female Leadership: the power of the word,” where they shared their views on how women have been at the forefront of changing our reality.

Finally, Nicole Verdugo led the panel «Not without us: have we gone backward during the pandemic?”, where she noted that, according to data from the report Gender and Health Analysis: COVID-19 in the Americas, gender inequality is a permanent social, economic, political and health crisis that has been exacerbated by the pandemic, but that also shows where we at WEF Chile need to work to create a more equitable, resilient and sustainable future. “This Chilean delegation, which brings together everyone from entrepreneurs to senior executives, is essential to raise the visibility of the issues women face in different areas of the economy and to leverage the changes we want to bring about in society,” said Verdugo.

All the women in this delegation are ambassadors of the Women Economic Forum Chile and share values such as sisterhood, collaboration and the desire to bring about profound change in society. The event in Argentina included delegations from Colombia, Uruguay, India, Great Britain, the United States, Italy, Spain, Cyprus and other countries, with the aim of highlighting the most relevant issues regarding women’s economic participation in Latin America in the post-pandemic context, with an emphasis on topics such as technology, the environment, gender gaps and opportunities.
