Know Hub Ignition 04, the acceleration program for science and technology startups, launches its fourth edition this year with two application categories: science and technology, and dual innovation. The winning teams will get an immersion phase in a country whose market fits their business, as well as a share of the prize money.
With the aim of increasing the number and national and international reach of technology businesses based on research and development (R&D) results, and accelerating the early and global growth of science-based startups (EBCTs), Know Hub Ignition 04 presents its seven-week program, which in 2024 has the support of Mexico’s Tec de Monterrey and Chile’s National Research and Development Agency (ANID), with Lockheed Martin as partner company.
Know Hub Ignition, a Corfo initiative, is a program that supports the creation and maturation of technology-based ventures and aims to identify teams with high entrepreneurial potential, supporting the design of a value proposition, validation and scale-up.
The program, open to all of Latin America, runs in a hybrid format for teams from Chile and online for teams from the rest of Latin America. Regarding this new edition, Know Hub Chile’s executive director, Javier Ramírez, says that “we will use our knowledge, experience and network to expand our search to Colombia and Mexico.”
The initiative has two categories: the first covers science and technology, including biotechnology, nanotechnology, robotics, software, synthetic biology, sensors and space technologies, among others. The second focuses on dual innovation, the process through which science and technology become products and services with applications in both defense and the civilian world.
The call will be open until July 16 to multidisciplinary teams of entrepreneurs, researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs and other professionals linked to research and development institutions in countries across the region. Each team must have at least two members, and the ability to combine technical, business and other skills relevant to the entrepreneurial challenge will be valued, as well as high potential for internationalization in the short term.
Winning teamsThree winning teams will be selected from the applicants and will take part in an immersion phase in an ecosystem suited to their target market, business model and technology readiness level, which could be Mexico, Spain, France or the United States.
The startups will be supported in their dynamic growth, with a focus on accelerating their time to market, raising private capital and maturing their intangible assets.
