Dear Editor:

The rescue of the 33 miners remains one of the most powerful milestones of technological collaboration in Chile’s recent history. In 2010, the State, the Armed Forces, academia and private companies worked in coordination to design and build the Fénix capsule, an unprecedented solution that combined engineering, precision and a common purpose.

Fifteen years on, it is worth remembering not only for its human dimension, but for what it taught us: that Chile can produce high-impact solutions when science, defense and industry act in coordination. That same logic underpins dual-use innovation, a model that drives technological developments with both civilian and strategic applications.

Every October we commemorate not only a technical and human achievement, but also a way of understanding innovation: as a collective effort among science, the State and industry to turn knowledge into sovereignty and development.
