  • Last Thursday, October 21, was a decisive day for the ten teams selected in the first stage of Avante 2021. After four weeks of training in the Dual Tech methodology, they pitched to the expert jury, which selected five teams to move on to the final stretch.

On this occasion, the evaluation committee was made up of representatives of the three institutions organizing Avante 2021: for Know Hub Chile, its executive director Javier Ramirez; for AthenaLab, John Griffiths; and for the Chilean Navy (Armada de Chile), Officers Francisco Mackay, Leonardo Grilli, Héctor Cifuentes, Jorge Maldonado and Cristian Faundez. They had the important task of selecting the five teams that remain in the competition, which will receive USD 6,000 to develop their Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and will continue their Dual Tech training for seven more weeks.

Throughout this process, the teams will continue to be supported by a team of experts, facilitators and mentors in charge of providing them with the necessary methodological and practical tools, before finally presenting again in mid-December to the jury that will choose the two winners.

The first-place team will receive up to USD 65,000 and the second up to USD 55,000. These funds are intended to implement a six-month work plan to scale the MVP and bring the technology closer to its dual market.

The 5 selected teams and their leaders

MINERVA: a multiplatform application with tools aimed at increasing the effectiveness of field personnel, a library of procedures, drawings, manuals, guides and videos, along with video calling capability. Ivan Díaz , Startup Innod.

Collaborative support tool: technical advice and remote support for field activities in geographically complex environments. Andrés González, startup Streltech.

PredictiveLab: a platform for identifying failures in equipment and systems by processing monitoring data with machine learning algorithms. Viviana Meruane, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universidad de Chile.

JakSol: a predictive and prescriptive maintenance platform for engineering systems, with vital-sign measurements to improve the planning and management of naval assets. Felipe Bueso, unaffiliated.

Failure prediction and logistics orchestration: a solution that diagnoses and classifies propulsion plant failures using statistical analysis and artificial intelligence. Aaron Cassorla, startup Omnix Corp.
