On Tuesday, August 17, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leveling Program got underway. It is led by Know Hub Chile under the 92-INES project, awarded by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation to the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies of the Universidad del Bío-Bío. More than fifty UBB researchers are taking part, along with various participants from partner research centers and universities.

Fernando Venegas, Technology Transfer Manager at Know Hub Chile, and Dr. Luis Lillo, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies (VRIP-UBB), welcomed participants to the program.

As Vice President, said Dr. Luis Lillo, I would like to welcome everyone and thank you for your interest in taking part in this training program, which is part of the 92INES-UBB project and aims to strengthen the internal capabilities and processes of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies (VRIP) that support research with a focus on technology transfer (TT) and R&D-based innovation, so as to meet the present and future needs of the University and of the various players in the region where it is located.

This program, adds Dr. Lillo, will be delivered by Know Hub Chile with the goal of helping turn the results of scientific research carried out by its partner universities and research centers into goods and services available on the market for the benefit of society.

“The training activities of the Know Hub Building Program are essential to our purpose, which is to transform science into innovation. That is why we are very proud to carry them out together with our partners, such as the Universidad del Bío-Bío: with its researchers, graduate students and technology managers, who are the ones who should lead the processes that will turn us into a knowledge-based economy,” said Fernando Venegas, Technology Transfer Manager at Know Hub Chile.

Venegas also thanked the participants for their interest in joining this initiative and highlighted the partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies under the 92INES-UBB project.

Program details

The program, which began on Tuesday, August 17, will run for eight weeks, during which professionals and researchers will learn fundamental content to build core capabilities that will help them take on innovation and entrepreneurship projects and challenges.

When is it worth patenting research? If an invention is successfully commercialized, what percentage of the economic benefits will the researcher receive? These are some of the topics to be covered in the second class of the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leveling Program.”

One of the goals of this INES project is to strengthen innovation capabilities at UBB. “That is why the VRIP saw the need to develop this innovation and entrepreneurship leveling program, aimed not only at VRIP staff but also at the university community as a whole, mainly researchers and graduate students, as well as people from other universities,” says the university official.

Universidad del Bío-Bío

UBB is one of Know Hub Chile’s 11 partner institutions. In that context, the two institutions have a history of collaboration in science-based innovation.

The program includes UBB researchers from the departments of Chemistry, Art and Design Technologies, Administration and Auditing, Business Management, Computer Science, Visual Communication, Basic Sciences, and Arts and Letters, as well as from the Ciencia para la Innovación 2030 Program. Seventeen students and professionals from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies are also part of the initiative.

Know Hub Chile

Know Hub Chile is a nonprofit organization made up of a group of universities and other knowledge-generating institutions that collaborate to transform science into innovation. Know Hub’s mission is to turn the results of its partners’ scientific research into goods and services available on the market for the benefit of society. Know Hub was created under Corfo’s “Technology Transfer HUB” project (now part of the National Research and Development Agency, ANID), with the aim of promoting innovation as an engine of economic and social development for Chile.

As a way to build a specific value proposition for its partners, the organization created the Know Hub Building program, with a clear focus on talent development and on the institutional strengthening of its partner universities and research centers.

This gave rise, among other initiatives, to the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leveling Program,” which over 8 to 10 weeks delivers fundamental content to build core capabilities for taking on innovation and entrepreneurship projects and challenges. The program provides knowledge on innovation management processes, intellectual property, technology transfer and science- and technology-based entrepreneurship.
