On Thursday, August 22, the first edition of the corporation’s members’ meeting took place at SOFOFA, attended by the Minister of Science, Aisén Etcheverry. The main topic of the meeting was the discussion and analysis of the Technology Transfer bill, together with the presentation of experiences and success stories in this field.

The first edition of NEXOS took place on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at SOFOFA’s premises: a day of collaboration in which participants discussed and shared views on topics of interest related to promoting the Technology Transfer bill, along with the presentation of successful technology transfer cases from Know Hub Chile and its members.

This activity is a meeting point for the corporation’s members (Universidad Austral, Universidad de Los Lagos, Universidad Católica de Temuco, Universidad de Talca, Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana, Universidad de Chile, Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias and Instituto de Neurociencias Biomédica) and key players in the national science, technology, knowledge and innovation (CTCI) ecosystem.

This space for camaraderie and collaborative work, which strengthens the ties among all member institutions, was attended by the Minister of Science, Aisén Etcheverry Escudero, who gave a presentation on the Technology Transfer bill.

In her talk, the Minister of Science analyzed the pillars of this initiative. She highlighted that it gives substance to the concept of research at higher education institutions (IES) as one of their essential functions; creates the National Repository of Scientific and Technological Knowledge and Information; establishes the duty of IES to promote open science, within their sphere of autonomy; together with the State’s duty to promote research, creation, and technology and knowledge transfer and exchange projects; and introduces amendments to other regulations aimed at removing possible obstacles to technology and knowledge transfer and management.

A meeting space

The goal of NEXOS, annual meetings among Know Hub Chile members, is to promote good practices in R&D&I through the experiences they have developed in technology transfer, while also giving each member the opportunity to share their future projects, in order to foster value creation through their experience, networks or knowledge, lessons learned and challenges.

“Our purpose is for the NEXOS program to become a place for building future collaborative initiatives among Know Hub members, and beyond, in which authorities, technology managers and researchers from our member institutions take part and collaborate,” says Javier Ramírez, executive director of Know Hub Chile.

Along those lines, the first edition featured presentations by: the EBCT Antiescaldante, with researcher Carolina Torres del Campo; MOV, an EBCT in the Know Hub portfolio, with its CEO Silvana Herrera; INIA researcher Eduardo Tapia, on “Development of a biopesticide for biological control/IPM of Lobesia botrana with entomopathogenic fungi”; Norberto Collazo, general coordinator of the Ciencia 2030 UCH Project, on “Science, Innovation and Entrepreneurship”; and Josué Pino from the administrative team of OpenICS, UCHILE, with his presentation “Experience of the Health Sciences Innovation Ecosystem”.
