Classes on innovation, entrepreneurship, intellectual property, market analysis, business models and technology transfer were taught by Know Hub Chile professionals.
Over three weeks, technology managers from the Universidad Católica de Temuco (UCTemuco) took part in “Technology Manager Training,” an initiative that is part of Know Hub Building. This program is aimed at the corporation’s members and at developing their technology transfer capabilities.
The training was tailored and aimed at five professionals and managers from the Office of Innovation and Technology Transfer (DIRITT). Its director, Dr. Patricia Oliveira Martins, took part in the initiative: “The training provided by Know Hub Chile helped me in my quest to help close the gap in knowledge, skills and experience in designing and implementing smart, effective strategies for innovation,” she explained.
“From my perspective as a lecturer and researcher, I learned, together with UCTemuco’s technology managers, how to apply the knowledge and experience identified in the learning process and share that knowledge with the help of modern management tools,” added Oliveira Martins, who holds a PhD in wood science and industries.
These theory classes, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, were taught by Know Hub Chile professionals, who put all their experience at the service of managers and academics. “An essential part of Know Hub Chile’s work is cooperating with our members to jointly create training programs at different levels,” said Jovanka Trebotich, Technology Transfer Coordinator.
She added: “Together with UCTemuco and, specifically, the Office of Innovation and Technology Transfer (DIRITT), we have been able to design a training program for its technology managers that gives them knowledge and tools covering the entire technology transfer process, so that these professionals can then support and advise their researchers and entrepreneurs in this area. We want to thank UCTemuco for its willingness, and this is just the beginning of joint work that will continue throughout 2022.”
Professionals Rocío Seguel, Viviana Mora, Luis Viveros and Felipe Muñoz also took part in the initiative. Speaking about the experience, Muñoz said: “The courses and workshops taught by Know Hub Chile have been very useful for DIRITT’s team of professionals and managers.”
He added that “we have had a space for fluid, hands-on dialogue and learning on Innovation and Technology Transfer (ITT) and entrepreneurship, which will undoubtedly make it easier for us to apply these concepts in lines of work with undergraduate and graduate students and researchers, and in strengthening science-based startups (EBCTs) at UCTemuco, as well as to develop different short- and medium-term strategies to boost a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship at the University”.
Know Hub Building: the corporation’s experience at the service of its members
Know Hub Chile works in a tailored way with its members, identifying their particular needs, both at the institutional level and in each organization’s own technology transfer challenges. In this way, the corporation seeks to develop a work proposal with differentiated value to improve their capabilities.
Programs such as Technology Manager Training seek to strengthen members’ institutional frameworks for innovation and build capabilities in managing research results and intellectual property. The aim is to integrate technology transfer best practices, build a culture of innovation, and support the creation and growth of science- and technology-based ventures.
