The three winning startups will have the opportunity to take part in an international immersion stage in ecosystems that are key to their technological and commercial growth.

Know Hub Ignition, the startup acceleration program organized by Know Hub Chile, announced the winners of its fourth edition: Soquimat, Alba by uMov and LifeNano Technologies. These startups, selected from a pool of 147 applicants from different Latin American countries, will have the opportunity to take part in an international immersion stage in ecosystems that are key to their technological and commercial growth.

The event was co-organized with the Technology Transfer Office of Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, with the support of Lockheed Martin and Chile’s National Research and Development Agency (ANID). During the event, nine teams competed by pitching to a panel of expert judges, who assessed the potential of their proposals in terms of innovation, business model and global scaling opportunities.

Javier Ramírez, executive director of Know Hub Chile, highlighted the program’s impact: «Across its different editions, Know Hub Ignition has proven to be an effective tool for turning science into innovation and accelerating science-based tech startups».

The three winning startups stood out for the strength of their projects. Soquimat presented an innovative solution with its T-COAT self-healing anticorrosive paint, which uses bio-based additives made from forestry waste, replacing harmful chemicals such as lead and phosphates. Alba is a kinesthetic device designed by the startup uMov to improve the mobility of people with motor weakness in their upper limbs. Meanwhile, LifeNano Technologies developed a technology that improves oxygenation in enclosed spaces, vital in emergency situations such as in submarines.

The program seeks to strengthen the capabilities of startups based on research and development (R&D) results. With the collaboration of Tec de Monterrey and Lockheed Martin, this year the program awarded a total of USD 140,000 to be shared among the winners. In addition, the selected teams will be able to carry out an immersion in key markets such as Mexico, the United States, France or Spain, with the aim of adjusting their business model and boosting their international expansion.

«Immersion in suitable technology ecosystems will enable the winners to adapt quickly to the demands of global markets«, Ramírez said of the importance of the international phase for the development of these startups.
