Dear Editor:

The 46% increase in national patent applications during the first half of 2025 is not just a good number; it is a sign of maturity.

As the director of Inapi, Esteban Figueroa, told DF, this jump reflects not only more inventive activity, but also a growing understanding of how to protect those developments.

Industrial property is no longer an ancillary formality; it has become a strategic tool for competitiveness. Patenting not only protects, it also opens commercial doors in Chile and abroad.

If the trend holds, 2025 could become one of the most dynamic years for patents in the last decade, signaling a stronger link between science, innovation and the market.

This scenario confirms something key: technology transfer can no longer remain on the sidelines. Protecting what is created is part of the path for Chile to turn knowledge into real development.
