The program seeks to connect researchers with the Navy to apply for funding and move toward real-world application of their developments.

The Chilean Navy (Armada de Chile) and Know Hub Chile held a bootcamp aboard the transport ship AP-41 Aquiles and at the facilities of the Navy’s Technological Innovation Center (Cita), with the participation of researchers and representatives from various sectors, as part of the Proa I+D program.

As reported by Infodefensa.com, this initiative is a program led by Cita and Know Hub Chile that seeks to connect research teams with the Chilean Navy to apply for funding and move toward real-world application of their developments.

According to the Chilean Navy, the event was attended by representatives of the Chilean Army (Ejército de Chile), in particular the Army’s Research and Technological Innovation Center (Ciitec), led by its head, Colonel Roberto Castillo.

Representatives of the National Research and Development Agency (Anid) also took part, among them Nicole Ehrenfeld, acting deputy director of Centers and Associative Research, as well as the executive director of Know Hub Chile, Javier Ramírez.

Identifying proposals of strategic institutional interest

The activity began with the reception of participants aboard the transport ship AP-41 Aquiles, where they were welcomed by its commanding officer, Commander Felipe Daiber.

On this occasion, Cita representative Lieutenant Commander Álvaro Paris gave a presentation on the main functions and challenges of the Chilean Navy.

This was followed by a beneficiary discovery workshop led by Jovanka Trebotich of the Know Hub Chile corporation, a partner organization of the program. The activity was also part of the pilot of the Portalón program, promoted by Cita, which aims to strengthen ties between the Navy and the national scientific community.

After the activities on board, attendees moved to Cita, where networking sessions were held with various Chilean Navy units, organized according to the topics raised by the researchers. This space made it possible to identify proposals of strategic institutional interest.

In the afternoon, a second workshop was held, focused on building a stakeholder map, followed by short presentations by the researchers and one-on-one meetings with institutional representatives, aimed at exploring the applicability of the proposed initiatives in the naval context.
