It is aimed at researchers, research teams and other key players in innovation and entrepreneurship (i + e).

The Technology Transfer and Licensing Office (OTL) and the Ingeniería 2030 Program of the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (UTEM) joined forces to carry out the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Training Program, delivered by Know Hub Chile.

The program consists of 3 training levels aimed at researchers, research teams and other key players in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation at UTEM: a foundational course in entrepreneurship and innovation, train-the-trainers, and the University of California, Riverside (UC Riverside) entrepreneurship program based on I-Corps.

The foundational course in entrepreneurship and innovation consists of 10 sessions in Spanish taught by the Know Hub Chile team. It began in early November 2020 with more than 40 participants from the UTEM community, including academics, researchers, students and staff. The course aims to develop core capabilities among researchers to take on innovation and entrepreneurship projects and challenges, giving them the knowledge they need to improve future applications for applied research funding.

In parallel with the previous level, the UC Riverside entrepreneurship program based on I-Corps is underway. This training initiative for researchers seeks to begin a cultural transformation in the scientific community. It also started in early November and consists of personalized mentoring sessions and 5 classes in English taught by the team at UC Riverside, a strategic partner of Know Hub Chile, designed to prepare the participating research teams in entrepreneurship and technology validation.

UTEM researchers/academics Rodrigo Araya, Carolina Parodi and Óscar Magna are taking part in the UC Riverside entrepreneurship program, as they and their teams seek to generate solutions applied to industry through these technologies. Their participation in this training will allow them to design and plan R&D projects focused on solving industry problems through close contact with industry, strengthen their business skills with an emphasis on building a value proposition and identifying a potential customer niche, and expand their network of industry contacts, among other things.

The final level, the applied train-the-trainers workshop, will begin in the second quarter of next year. In 10 sessions led by the Know Hub team, this initiative seeks to develop advanced capabilities in a group of engineering researchers inclined toward innovation and entrepreneurship, in order to start a cultural transformation at the University.

This training program reaffirms UTEM’s commitment, through the Office of the Vice Rector for Technology Transfer and Outreach, the OTL, the Technology Transfer programs, the Community Engagement programs and Ingeniería 2030, to training the university community in innovation and entrepreneurship in order to promote applied research, the effective protection of intellectual assets and knowledge transfer.

The university community can take part in upcoming calls for related workshops, talks and courses. Information about these opportunities will be shared through various channels: email, social media (Linkedin OTL, Twitter OTL, Twitter UTEM, Twitter VTTE) and the websites of the VTTE, DTT, OTL and Ingeniería 2030 UTEM.
