A delegation from the Chilean Army’s (Ejército de Chile) Center for Research and Technological Innovation (CIITEC) was invited by the Chilean Navy (Armada de Chile) to take part as an observer in the second edition of the Proa I+D 2 program.
The activity, organized by the Navy’s Technological Innovation Center (CITA), provided a firsthand look at the presentation and evaluation of science and technology projects with potential applications in the defense field.
CIITEC’s attendance reflects the institution’s interest in promoting open innovation mechanisms that strengthen the Army’s operational capabilities.
During the day, attendees observed everything from researchers presenting their initiatives to the analysis of how they could be linked to real Navy problems.
In this edition of the program, it was the researchers themselves who proposed technology solutions that could connect with institutional needs.
This two-way approach fosters effective innovation dynamics, bringing together research centers, universities and startups.
In addition, representatives of the National Research and Development Agency (ANID) took part as observers, showing their interest in identifying projects with potential for scaling and practical application.
The head of CIITEC’s Modeling and Simulation Section, Lieutenant Colonel Sebastián Aguirre N., said: “What we observed leaves us with a clear lesson: by exposing real problems and connecting the right players, a powerful innovation ecosystem is activated. As the Army, this experience motivates us to explore similar models to drive concrete solutions with operational relevance.”
CIITEC’s presence in these kinds of forums reaffirms the Chilean Army’s commitment to institutional modernization, the development of technological capabilities and the strengthening of strategic alliances with organizations in the national innovation ecosystem.
