The main areas of collaboration include access to innovation methodologies and networks, the maturation and validation of technology prototypes, support for dual-impact technology-based projects, the training of specialized teams and the exploration of permanent collaborative workspaces between the two institutions.

With the aim of boosting the development of technological capabilities applied to defense and promoting dual-impact (civil–defense) innovation, the Chilean Army (Ejército de Chile), through its Education and Doctrine Command (CEDOC), signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Know Hub Chile, a corporation specializing in innovation and technology transfer.

The agreement will establish a framework for cooperation aimed at the joint development of applied research, open innovation, technology transfer and institutional capacity-building initiatives, contributing to the advancement of technological solutions that respond to the Army’s strategic challenges through its Center for Research and Technological Innovation (CIITEC).

The main areas of collaboration include access to innovation methodologies and networks, the maturation and validation of technology prototypes, support for dual-impact technology-based projects, the training of specialized teams and the exploration of permanent collaborative workspaces between the two institutions.

The agreement also provides for the design and implementation of technology challenges and the development of projects related to artificial intelligence, automation, simulation, logistics sensors and other priority areas for strengthening institutional capabilities.

Transfer of knowledge and technology

The alliance will also facilitate links with universities, research centers, startups and public agencies, fostering the transfer of knowledge and technologies toward concrete applications of interest to national defense.

The signing ceremony, held on Thursday, June 18, at CEDOC, was attended by the Commander of Education and Doctrine, Major General Gustavo Ellwanger Alvar, and the executive director of Know Hub Chile, Javier Ramírez Ramos.

The Commander of Education and Doctrine, Major General Gustavo Ellwanger Alvar, highlighted the importance of this agreement, stating that “for the Army, this collaboration is crucial, because defense has technological needs that can benefit from the knowledge and innovations developed in the civilian sector.”

For his part, the executive director of Know Hub Chile said it is an honor to sign an agreement with the Army, since “the goal of this agreement is to consolidate a space for coordination between science, defense, industry and the State to activate dual innovation in Chile, driving technologies that respond to the country’s strategic challenges and generate public value, productive development and technological capabilities with national and international impact.”
