KNOW HUB CHILE AND TECNOLÓGICO DE MONTERREY SIGN COOPERATION AGREEMENT

A delegation from the Mexican university, a leader in science-, technology- and production-based entrepreneurship, met with Know Hub Chile and established a collaboration alliance with the organization that will advance the internationalization interests of the Know Hub portfolio.

Representatives of Mexico’s Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (TEC), visiting Chile, met with Know Hub Chile’s executive director, Javier Ramírez, and innovation coordinator Óscar Astudillo, discussing the challenges of technology transfer in Chile and Mexico and the strategic cooperation that TEC de Monterrey represents for the organization.

The TEC committee was made up of: Silvia Mora, Associate Director of Outreach, Market Strategy and Fund Management, Vice Presidency of Research; Deyanira Delgado, Director of Outreach and Business Attraction for Innovation Districts, Vice Presidency for the Northern Region; Luz Vanzulli, Continuing Education and Graduate Programs Lead for Chile and Uruguay, Vice Rectorate for Continuing Education; and Jorge Avendaño, Associate Director of Research and Technological Development, Vice Presidency of Research.

TEC is an entrepreneurial university and one of the most closely linked to industry in Mexico. It focuses on developing startups based on scientific research.

Cooperation

At the meeting, both institutions signed a memorandum of understanding, an agreement that aims to boost technology transfer and science- and technology-based entrepreneurship, through an alliance that will seek resources for the co-development of such projects.

Óscar Astudillo, innovation coordinator at Know Hub Chile, adds that this joint work will make it possible to connect Know Hub Chile’s partner universities and technology centers, “providing synergy with an internationalization process supported in Mexico by this institution, as well as the possibility for them to carry out scientific and technological exchanges, produce goods and services, and create ventures that benefit the societies in which both institutions operate.”

Another relevant aspect, Astudillo notes, is the ability to connect the science- and technology-based innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems of Chile and Mexico through Tecnológico de Monterrey’s initiative known as innovation districts.

“This type of agreement between the parties is the first step at the international level and marks the internationalization process that our organization wants and needs to pursue, based on the project we have with the Agencia Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo. This opens the door to seeking new alliances with business sectors that Tecnológico de Monterrey works with and that could be of interest to our programs and partners,” Astudillo emphasizes.
