Know Hub Chile’s operating committee was held on November 28. The corporation also gave presentations at both of the university’s campuses, Concepción and Chillán, on the work it carries out through its various programs to transform the scientific research results of its partners (universities and research centers) into goods, services and ventures.

The Innovation Center of the Universidad del Bío Bío (UBB), in Concepción, was the venue that brought together representatives of Know Hub Chile’s partner universities for the operating committee on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

A team from Know Hub Chile, made up of Javier Ramírez, executive director; Óscar Astudillo, innovation coordinator; and innovation managers Sol Uribe and Taky Parvex, traveled to the Biobío Region for the meeting, which was held both in person and online.

The aim was to inform partners about the various activities and programs carried out by the corporation, and to highlight the importance of collaborative work. The meeting also encouraged the exchange of ideas and concerns between Know Hub Chile and its partners.

The operating committee is highly relevant for the HUB and its founding partners. “The ideas and programs being developed are shared with each of the founding partners, who have the chance to take part in the design and implementation of these programs in the following year or while they are being carried out. It is also relevant because it makes it possible to bring together all their knowledge and needs jointly, which the other partners also learn about, creating an environment of collaboration and synergy,” says Óscar Astudillo, innovation coordinator at Know Hub Chile.

Andrea Bustos, coordinator of the Transfer and Licensing Office (OTL-UBB), said the meeting was very important: “We were able to hold the first post-pandemic operating committee, attended by the corporation’s partner universities, where we reviewed a work plan to bring UBB technologies to market and to connect our student researchers and entrepreneurs with national and international networks.”

During the visit to UBB, Know Hub Chile carried out several activities. Among them, on Wednesday, November 29, the team met with the Director of Innovation of the Universidad del Bío-Bío, Mario Núñez, and the university’s Transfer and Licensing Office team, led by Andrea Bustos. They also met in Chillán with UBB’s Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. María Angélica Caro.

That same day, the Know Hub Chile team held an enriching working session, presenting who they are and how they support technology transfer processes to UBB academics and researchers in two informational talks, the first at the UBB Innovation Center on the Concepción campus and the second at the Fernando May campus in Chillán.

“Being able to meet with the innovation directors of both campuses, together with the university’s vice president, gives the university’s senior management and its operating team, the OTL, the opportunity to learn about the work we do together and the potential collaborations we can carry out with them, and, without a doubt, to plan the work beyond the day itself, specifically oriented toward the needs identified by management and the OTL. All of this to pave the way internally and reach the research teams leading technology transfer work at UBB,” says Astudillo.

The Know Hub Chile partner institutions that took part were: Universidad de Talca, Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias, Universidad del Bío Bío, Universidad de Chile, Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana, Universidad Católica del Maule, Centro de Estudios de Alimentos Procesados, Universidad Austral de Chile, Universidad de Los Lagos and Universidad Católica de Temuco.
